Hello, friends in this post I am going to tell you some information about the size of steel bars. It is not fixed to use the size of steel bars for specific purposes. It depends on the types of construction and the purpose of the structure that you are going to construct.
Steel Bars are the construction material that is used to construct structures like building, bridges, RCC roads, towers, etc. It is used in Concrete to provide a tensile strength in concrete as the tensile strength of concrete is very less as compared to the compressive strength of concrete.
so, to balance the bearing capacity of concrete structure in both tensile as well as compressive strength we have to use different sizes of steel rods according to design into the concrete. This type of concrete which contains steel rod is known as RCC (Reinforced Concrete Cement).
But we can see generally used diameter of steel bars are for different structures can be given below,
Slabs in the building are constructed using steel bars having a diameter of 8mm, 10mm, 12mm.
In the same way Beams and columns of the building are constructed using 12mm to 25mm diameter of steel bars. But it also depends on the load design and the span of the beam and column.
similarly, the size of steel bars having a diameter 25mm, 32mm and 36mm are used in hydraulic structures like Dam, Bridge, aqueduct, Reservoiretc.
Finally, we can say that whatever be the structure like column, beam, slab, foundation, RCC wall etc we use the following size of steel bars having diameter.
Also, we can find the steel bars having a diameter of 5mm but they are used for non-structural purposes.
Different Between one Way and Two Way Slab
But if required the constructors should order to the factory to construct the desired diameter of steel according to their design of the structure. So it may be, 40mm, 45mm, 50mm, 60mm, etc.
