There are different types of sand having different densities. The weight of sand per cubic foot depends on the density of sand.
We can calculate the weight of different types of sand by the standard formula which is given by,
Weight of sand = Volume of sand x Density of sand
From the above formula,
To calculate the weight of sand in kg per cubic foot, the volume of sand should be in feet cube and the density of sand must be in kg/ft3. The density of sand is calculated in the laboratory with the help of different apparatus given below at the last of this article.
The dry density of different types of sand in gram/cm3

Changing above value in lb/ft3 as,
1 g/cm3 = 62.428 lb/ft3
We get,
The dry density of different types of sand in lb/ft3
S.N | Sand Type | Dry Density lb/ft3 |
---|---|---|
1 | Sand | 94.89 |
2 | Silt Loam | 79.9 |
3 | Sandy Loam | 89.89 |
4 | Clay | 74.91 |
5 | Clay Loam | 79.9 |
6 | Loam | 84.9 |
7 | Concrete | 149.82 |
Use Density Conversion Calculator
>> Calculator
If we take the volume of 1 cubic foot of sand and density of sand 94.89 lb/ft3. Then the weight of sand per cubic foot will be,
Weight = Volume x Density
= 1 x 94.89
= 94.89 lb
If we convert 94.89 lb into kg, then it will be 43.04138 Kg. Because 1 lb is equal to 0.4535 Kg
Weight of sand per cubic foot
S.N | Sand Type | Weight (lb) | Weight (Kg) |
---|---|---|---|
1 | Sand | 94.89 | 43.041 |
2 | Silt Loam | 79.9 | 36.24 |
3 | Sandy Loam | 89.89 | 40.77 |
4 | Clay | 74.91 | 33.97 |
5 | Clay Loam | 79.9 | 36.24 |
6 | Loam | 84.9 | 38.50 |
7 | Concrete | 149.82 | 67.95 |
