How to Calculate ms hollow pipe weight in Kg, Pound?

MS Pipe means mild steel pipe. The weight of hollow steel pipe depends upon the thickness and quality of the pipe used. The general density of the pipe is taken 7850 Kg/meter cube to calculate the weight of the pipe.

Let us see the step wise calculation to calculate ms hollow pipe weight.

1) For rectangular or Square MS Pipe,

Considering the dimension of pipe below,

Length of Pipe (L) = 5 meter

Width of Pipe (W) = 150 mm = 0.150 m

Depth of pipe (D) = 100 mm = 0.100 m

Thickness (t) = 8 mm = 0.08 m

We have,

Weight =  Volume x Density

and,

Density of Steel = 7850 Kg/m. cube

Formula,

Volume = W * D * L – (W-2t)*(D-2t) x L

Volume,

= 0.150 x 0.100 x 5 – (0.150-2*0.008) x (0.100-2*0.008) x 5

= 0.075 – 0.05628

= 0.01872 m cube.

Now,

Weight = 0.01872 x 7850

Weight =  146.016 Kg.

To Convert into pound = 146.016 x 2.205 = 321.91 Pound

2) For Round MS Pipe,

Considering the dimension of pipe below,

Length of Pipe (L) = 5 meter

Outer Dia. of Pipe (D) = 200 mm = 0.200 m

Thickness of Pipe (t) = 40 mm = 0.040 m

We have,

Weight =  Volume x Density

and,

The density of Steel = 7850 Kg/m. cube

Formula,

Volume:- (3.1415 * D * D/4)*L – (3.1415 * (D-t) * (D-t)/4)*L

Volume,

= (3.1415 x 0.200 x 0.200/4) x 5 –

(3.1415 x (0.200-2*0.040) x (0.200-2*0.040)/4) x 5

= 0.1570 – 0.0565

=  0.1004 m cube.

Now,

Weight = 0.1004 x 7850

Weight =  788.14 Kg.

To Convert into pound = 788.14 x 2.205 = 1737.55 Pound
