What are different types of RCC Structure?

The different types of RCC structures depend upon the amount of steel required to construct the RCC Section or structure.

There are three types of RCC Structure. They are,

a) Under reinforced section

What are different types of RCC Structure?

Under reinforced section is one that is so proportioned that the stress in steel reaches its permissible value earlier than concrete. The stress in concrete will be lesser than its permissible value. It has a ductile failure.

In under reinforced section, the neutral axis remains above the critical neutral axis. This failure shows any sign of failure before the sudden collapse of the structure.

b) Over reinforced section

In this type of structure, the concrete reaches its permissible value to bear load earlier than the steel rod used in it. It has a brittle failure.

In this case, the neutral axis is below the critical neutral axis. This failure does not show any sign of failure before the sudden collapse of the structure.

c) Balanced Section

In this type of structure, the concrete reaches and steel rods used both reach its permissible value to bear load at the same time.

Its neutral axis is exactly at the critical neutral axis. The failure in this section is known as a balanced failure.
