Water Tank Load Calculator on Slab

civil engineer

Inputs

Water Load: — kN/m²

How to use Water Tank Load Calculator?

Step 1:- Input the length, width of the salb on which the water tank will rest.

Step 2:- Input the water tank capacity to calculate the load by water on the slab.

Step 3:- Click on calculate button to get the water tank load per meter square on the roof or slab.

A water tank load calculator is the tool that helps you to calculate the load on a slab, roof, etc by water in the tank. Water tank load calculation is required for analysis of the different structures like slab reinforcement, beam reinforcement, column below slab, etc.

Further It helps to prevent structural failures, optimize slab design, enhance the safety and sustainability of buildings structures.

How to calculate water tank load on slab?

Water tank load calculation is very important while analysisng the structure for earthquack, seismic load, wind load etc. Let us take an numerical example,

Water tank load Calculator

Q.) Calculate the distributed load on a slab with dimensions 13 feet x 11 feet, and a water tank capacity of 5000 liters.

Given,

Slab Dimensions: 13 feet x 11 feet

Water Tank Capacity: 5000 liters

Step 1 :- Convert slab dimensions from feet to meters.

Length: 13 feet * 0.3048 = 3.96 m
Width: 11 feet * 0.3048 = 3.35 m
Area: 3.96 m * 3.35 m = 13.29 m²

[Notes* - 1 feet = 0.3048 meter]

Step 2 :- Convert water tank capacity from liters to cubic meters:

Volume: 5000 liters * 0.001 = 5.00 m³

Step 3 :- Calculate the weight of water:

Weight = Volume * Density = 5.00 m³ * 9.81 kN/m³ = 49.05 kN

Step 4 :- Calculate distributed load on the slab:

So, Distributed Load = Water Weight / Slab Area = 49.05 kN / 13.29 m² = 3.69 kN/m²

Hence, Distributed Load on Slab: 3.69 kN/m²

Factors Affecting Water Tank Load on Slabs

There are several factors which affect the water tank load on the slab like, slab dimensions, water tank capacity, and material weight etc. All the factors should be calculated accurately to analyse the structure with the view of economical as well as safety.
