The Difference between the Flemish bond and English bond in Bricks are given below. If you want to understand in detail the move below the post.

English bond
This type of bond is the most commonly used for all wall thicknesses. This bond is considered to be the strongest. This bond is a brick construction pattern consists of alternate courses of headers and stretchers.

The vertical joints of the header courses come over each other in this bond. Similarly, the vertical joints of the stretcher courses also come over each other.
In order to break vertical joints in the successive courses, it is essential to place the queen closer after the first header in each heading course. This bond is stronger than almost all other bonds.
Features of English Bond
- No continuous vertical joints formed.
- The alternate course either shows headers or stretchers in the elevation.
- The stretchers have a minimum lap of ¼ th of their length over the headers.
- For the thicker wall, the middle portion consists of headers.
- For a stretcher course, queen closer is not required.
Flemish bond
In this type of bond, each course is comprised of headers and stretchers. Every alternate course starts with a header at the corner (i.e. quoin header).

Quoin closer are placed next to the quoin header in alternate courses to develop the face lap. The appearance of this bond is considered better than English bond but it is not strong as English bond.
Types of Flemish Bond
Single Flemish Bond
This bond comprises the double Flemish bond on its facing and English bond as backing with hearting in each course.
Hence, this bond use the strength of both English and Flemish bond. This type of bond can be used for the construction of wall with a thickness not less than one and a half brick. Cheap bricks can be used for backing and hearting.
Double Flemish bond
The future of this bond is that it has same appearance both in the front face as well as in the back face. This future gives a better appearance compared to the English bond for all wall thickness.
Features of Double Flemish bond
- Headers and stretchers of each course have placed alternately.
- The facing and backing of the wall have the same appearance.
- Quoin closers are placed next to quoin headers in alternate courses.
- The wall with odd multiple of half brick employs half bats and three-quarter bats.
- The walls with even multiple of half bricks, bats are not required.
