Hello, guys here I will discuss different grades of cement. It means the difference between 33 Grade, 43 Grade, and 53 Grade of cement. So let’s start.
Ordinary Portland Cement (OPC) has three grades that are 33 Grade, 43 Grade, and 53 Grade. They are different from each other due to their compressive strength.
The unit of this compressive strength is Mpa (Mega Pascale) i.e. N/mm2. We know the compressive strength is the ratio of load to unit area.
The load is calculated in Newton and area is calculated in mm square.
Different between different grades of cement

1) IS Codes
For each grade of cement different IS Codes are used which are given as,
For 33 Grade Cement IS 269 is used.
For 43 Grade Cement IS 8112 is used.
For 53 Grade Cement IS 12269 is used.
2) Compressive Strength
For the compressive strength of concrete, all the gradient like cement, sand, and water are mixed together and made a cube. After that, the cube is tested in the laboratory with help of a machine at 27 degrees centigrade.
The cube tests are done at different intervals of time like 3 days, 7 days, and 28 days. The full compressive strength of concrete or cube is completed after 28 days only.
For 3 Days-
33 Grade Cement- It achieve compressive strength of 16 N/mm2 In 3 days.
43 Grade Cement- It achieve compressive strength of 23 N/mm2 In 3 days.
53 Grade Cement- It achieve compressive strength of 27 N/mm2 In 3 days.
For 7 Days-
33 Grade Cement- It achieve compressive strength of 22 N/mm2 In 7 days.
43 Grade Cement- It achieve compressive strength of 33 N/mm2 In 7 days.
53 Grade Cement- It achieve compressive strength of 37 N/mm2 In 7 days.
For 28 Days-
33 Grade Cement- It achieve compressive strength of 33 N/mm2 In 28 days.
43 Grade Cement- It achieve compressive strength of 43 N/mm2 In 28 days.
53 Grade Cement- It achieve compressive strength of 53 N/mm2 In 28 days.
3) Initial Strength
Initial strength of 53 Grade cement is higher than 33 Grade and 43 Grade Cement.
Here, you should know the fact is the compressive strength 53 Grade cement does not grow after 28 Days but in the same way 33 Grade and 43 Grade of cement continues to gain strength even after 28 days.
With time 33 Grade cement and 43 Grade Cement will attain the strength of 53 Grade of cement.
4) Heat of Hydration
33 Grade Cement- Heat of Hydration is lower.
43 Grade Cement- Heat of hydration is medium.
53 Grade Cement- Heat of hydration is higher.
Due to lower heat of hydration, the 33 grade of cement gets micro cracking which may not visible with our naked eyes.
5) Price for Different grades of cement
It depends upon the manufacturing company of cement. The price may vary even for the same grade of cement.
The low grade i.e. 33 Grade Cement has lower price than 43 Grade or 53 Grade Cement.
Approximately the price varies from Rs. 305 to Rs. 395 per bags of cement.
6) Uses
33 Grade Cement- It is used for the low-grade structure below M20 Grade. Ex- Floor filling, plastering, making flower pots.
43 Grade Cement- It is used for, tiling, Stonemasonry, Culvert, Bridge, Road, Retaining Structure, etc.
53 Grade Cement- RCC Structure like column, beam, slab, etc. This cement is used for high strength of concrete above M25 Grade or M30 Grade of concrete is required.
I hope you got concept of different grades of cement.
